Breanna Shanahan était de retour à La Chapelle du 12 août au 5 septembre 2021 pour sa nouvelle exposition intitulée : Zoom/Apposite to the times.

Professeure invitée de dessins et sculptures au Mount-Allison University à Sackville au Nouveau-Brunswick, l’artiste profite de son séjour et des contraintes pandémiques pour réinventer sa pratique artistique et réintroduire l’aquarelle à son univers contemporain.

Les séances Zoom auxquelles Shanahan participe lui permette d’explorer de nouvelles avenues. Un défi est lancé: créer une oeuvre à toutes les 3 minutes pendant 30 minutes. Il en résulte 10 dessins ou aquarelles à chaque demi-heure.

Ainsi, en collaborant avec ses collègues artistes sur Zoom, Breanna crée une collection d’aquarelles qui immortalisent un moment, un lieu, une conversation ou un état mental uniques pendant l’année pandémique. Les oeuvres présentées à la galerie sont tirées de cette collection.

Curriculum vitae

Breanna Shanahan, sculptrice et artiste bidimensionnelle, a obtenu une maîtrise en Beaux-arts de l’Université Concordia en juin 2019. Ses oeuvres ont été exposées en Italie, en Chine, en Autriche, aux États-Unis et au Canada. Breanna Shanahan a représenté le Canada au Centre de Pengzhou, en Chine, et a été la première Canadienne à obtenir la résidence d’artiste de la famille Jorisch au Museum der Moderne de Salzbourg, en Autriche.

Ses oeuvres ouvrent la voie à de nouveaux modes de création. Lauréate de nombreux prix prestigieux, elle a également bénéficié de bourses d’études, de subventions et de programmes de résidence. Son oeuvre d’art public, FORÊT DE DEUX CITÉS, sera installée dans le nouveau couloir de verdure de Pengzhou, en Chine, en 2021.

Breanna Shanahan, sculpture and two dimensional based artist, received her MFA at Concordia University in june 2019. Her work has been exhibited in Italy, China, Austria, The United States of America and in Canada. Shanahan has represented Canada in Pengzhou and at the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg Austria as the first Canadian recipient of the Jorisch Family Artist Residency.

Shanahan’s work focuses on the integration of sculptural and two dimensional forms, leading to new ways of making art. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards, scholarships, grants and residency and she currently has a public artwork going up for 2021 in Pengzhou, China : FOREST OF TWO CITIES which will be installed on their new greenway.
